Sustainable Swaps To Make In Your Beauty Routine

It's the big thing on everyone's minds at the moment... how can we be more sustainable? How can we help the environment?

We're all trying harder. Whether this is remembering to take your tote bag out shopping, or making sure to pop those glass jars in the recycling bin but when it comes to beauty, what can you do to switch up your beauty product/routine sustainability?

Here are some tips from Team Navy on how you can make those all-important swaps to do your bit to help the environment...

Eco-friendly and reusable products - Stop using those disposable make-up wipes and cotton pads and make the move to reusable cotton pads! They're so much more convenient and not only will you be saving the environment, but you'll also be saving yourself some pennies too. (Something we ALL appreciate with the cost of living crisis)

Save water - A super small but just as important change is remembering to save water where you can. This can be as simple as turning off the tap if you're not using it whilst washing your face, brushing your teeth etc.  Also, if you think you are hardcore enough, we'd recommend a slightly cooler shower too. This is better for the environment and also cooler showers have been proven to be better for circulation and skin and nails!

Buy from brands that are eco-friendly - Make sure that the beauty brands you are buying from are leading by example and by being cruelty-free and eco-friendly. We at Navy, pride ourselves on being completely cruelty-free as well as having eco-friendly packaging. All products manufactured and sold at Navy are also certified by PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies program. These kinds of things can very easily be checked on the packaging and on their websites.

Switch to bamboo - Be like Pandas (one of our favourite animals, for obvious reasons) and get down with bamboo! You can get all sorts of amazing beauty alternatives using bamboo from spatulas, mixing bowls, spoolies and even to headbands. Bamboo is a really good alternative to plastic because it's bio-degradable and eco-friendly.

Use what you have - Something that we definitely are all guilty of is not using the products we have and going out and buying more. Don't go and buy eco-friendly products without using up your current products. Work with what you have and if there's something you have that isn't suitable, give it a second life by re-selling or even gifting it to someone you know that can make use of it.
